ASSOCIATE PSYCHOLOGIST
Dr. Aleena Hay is a licensed clinical psychologist in the state of New York. She specializes in
the treatment of anxiety, OCD, depression, trauma, and managing difficult life stressors in adults and older adolescents. Dr. Hay has expertise in cognitive-behavioral treatment approaches. She received her Ph.D. from Yale University and completed her doctoral internship at the May Institute. Upon graduating, Dr. Hay completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship at the Boston University Center for Anxiety and Related Disorders.
Dr. Hay has extensive experience providing empirically supported cognitive-behavioral
treatment for mood, anxiety, and trauma-related disorders. Specifically, she has expertise in
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for specific anxiety disorders and depression. Additionally, she has experience with the Unified Protocol for Transdiagnostic Treatment for Emotional Disorders as well as Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) for treating OCD.
Dr. Hay also utilizes mindfulness-based treatment (e.g., ACT) as part of her therapeutic approach. She creates a collaborative treatment alliance with her clients and individualizes treatment to address the specific concerns of each person. Dr. Hay creates a warm and supportive treatment environment. She focuses on helping clients identify areas of concern and provides support and guidance to help clients make positive and meaningful changes that allow them to flourish as they navigate their daily lives.
In addition to her clinical experience, Dr. Hay has previously served as professor of psychology teaching courses on clinical psychology and human emotion. She also has a vibrant research career where she studies emotion regulation or how we manage our emotions (both by ourselves and with other people). Her teaching and research experience help to ensure that she is always up to date on cutting edge research in psychological treatment.
